How Nick LeBrun Powers a Full Tournament Day with MillerTech Lithium
Tournament pro Nick LeBrun runs two MillerTech 36V 60Ah batteries in parallel on his trolling motor, plus MillerTech 12V lithium for everything else. In a short walkthrough on his Yamaha-powered bass boat, he explains why he made the switch and how the setup ended his habit of rationing power late in the day.
If you fish hard with forward-facing sonar, multiple screens and Power-Poles, here’s what his system looks like and why it works.
Why the power demands changed
Nick points to how much tournament fishing has changed. Anglers spend far more time on the trolling motor than they used to, holding position and chasing fish they can see on forward-facing sonar. Add multiple graphs and Power-Poles, and the old battery setup simply couldn’t keep up through a full day.
He tried MillerTech lithium, and in his words, he fell in love with it. Today his whole rig runs on MillerTech.
The trolling motor: two 36V 60Ah batteries in parallel
The trolling motor runs on two MillerTech 36V 60Ah lithium batteries wired in parallel. That keeps the motor at 36 volts while doubling usable capacity to 120Ah.
Each battery is a Group 31-size unit at about 41 lbs, with:
- A built-in battery management system for cell balancing, voltage cutoffs, and short-circuit and high-temperature protection
- Bluetooth monitoring through the MillerTech app
- A rated 5,000 cycles at up to 80% capacity
- A 10-year warranty
The 12V side: electronics, sonar and Power-Poles
Nick keeps his 12-volt loads on separate MillerTech Sport Series 12V lithium batteries. That bank handles the boat’s Yamaha-side needs and every accessory: his graphs, two forward-facing sonar units and his Power-Poles.
Splitting the system this way means a long day on the trolling motor never pulls down the batteries running his electronics.
Charging both banks at once
A MillerTech onboard charger, mounted between the batteries, fast-charges both the 12V and 36V banks. Nick says the whole setup is simple: plug in at the end of the day and everything is ready by morning.
The payoff: no more rationing power
Before lithium, Nick often had to ease off the trolling motor late in the day to make his batteries last. With two 36V batteries in parallel, he says those days are over. He can fish the last hour as hard as the first.
Support from people who fish
Nick says the batteries are only part of why he runs MillerTech. He calls out the team behind them: solid support, real knowledge, and people who understand tournament fishing and what anglers need on the water.
Build your own setup
Nick’s rig is a good template for any angler running heavy electronics:
- Two 36V lithium batteries in parallel for long days on the trolling motor
- A separate 12V lithium bank for graphs, sonar and Power-Poles
- One onboard charger that handles both banks overnight
